Make Sense and 1OPD shared insights on how to properly handle personal data when launching advertising campaigns

In an article on Sostav.ru, Marina Alexandrovskaya, Managing Partner at 1OPD, explained how businesses should handle personal data when launching advertising campaigns.

Almost every promo campaign involves launching a landing page, targeted ads, email newsletters, or another communication format where users provide their data. Each such activity must be accompanied by informing customers that their data is being collected and processed. This is usually implemented by obtaining user consent on the website page or via a feedback form. Marina discussed the key solutions for setting up and automating this process when launching ad campaigns.

According to the expert, large companies often hire specialized in-house professionals (DPOs) as well as cybersecurity staff. Another approach is to cooperate with a major partner who manages personal data processing “turnkey.” This way, companies control the entire personal data workflow, developing and implementing special procedures and regulations — both independently and in partnership. Meanwhile, small and medium-sized companies often handle personal data formally, using template document builders without considering their internal processes’ specifics. Such an approach frequently leads to serious violations.

In the article, Marina detailed potential fines; risks for advertising agencies; explained for which ad campaigns personal data must be collected and processed; and listed the main methods of collecting and processing personal data, highlighting the differences between them.
