Make Sense at Leninka: When Unique Places Become a Source of Ideas

Sometimes, to find new meaning, you simply need to change the context. For example, choose a place where ideas have been preserved for decades. That's precisely why we decided to organize a closed New Year's event: an exclusive tour at the Russian State Library, the very one known as "Leninka."

The Make Sense team, along with clients and partners from various companies (VK, MTS, SberUniversity, Auchan, X5 Retail Group), ventured into a place where silence speaks louder than presentations and history lingers in the air.
The Library as a Living Organism
Leninka is a vast, perfectly tuned mechanism of knowledge. Its archives hold over 47 million items: books, manuscripts, maps, sheet music, newspapers, and rare documents in hundreds of languages worldwide.

Realizing this scale is somewhat humbling — next to such numbers, you understand that any idea always has a context, roots, and a backstory.
What was particularly striking is how every detail here is meticulously considered: from book logistics to the storage system, where every single item knows its place and time.
Europe's Largest Reading Room
A standout experience was the Third Reading Room, considered the largest reading hall in Europe. This immense space, designed for over a thousand people, is filled with light, symmetry, and an almost physically palpable concentration of thought.

At that moment, many of us shared the same feeling: the silence in which texts, concepts, and reality-changing solutions are born.
The Gutenberg Bible
The most powerful emotional moment of the tour was the story of the oldest printed book in human history, the Gutenberg Bible (1454-1455).

Over half a millennium of history is preserved on its pages.
What Inspired Us
We saw how a place and its history can shape mindset, ideas, and creativity; how space influences dialogue; and how a shared unique experience brings people together more powerfully than dozens of scheduled meetings.

For Make Sense, events like this are a way to create a shared field of meaning with our clients and partners.
